Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest – Pilcopata

Highlight of the Day: Descending from the Andes into the cloud forest and looking for the Cock of the Rock.

Your Amazon journey begins early in Cusco. The road leaves the city and heads toward Paucartambo, a historic town on the route to the rainforest. From here, you continue toward Acjanaco Pass at around 3,550 meters above sea level.

After crossing the highlands, the road begins a long descent toward the cloud forest. The temperature and vegetation change noticeably as you lose altitude. Along the way, you stop at a viewing area to look for the Cock of the Rock, one of the best-known birds of the region.

The journey continues through the cloud forest toward Pilcopata. Keep an eye on the vegetation and surrounding slopes, as this part of the route can offer opportunities to see different birds and other wildlife.
